With mild temperatures and white sandy beaches and nearby mountains we can offer the choice between practising water sports and the calm life of rural Portugal where we have found an ideal location for those of you who want to get away from all the hustle and bustle of modern life.

Quinta Caneiro is part of a small hamlet near the village of Macas De Dona Maria were local ameneties including a bakery, cafes, butchery, ATM, chemist and doctors rooms are available for most of your daily requirements. There is also a local market held in the village every Sunday.

We believe that the Quinta Caneiro used to be a vineyard years ago which was left to go to ruin. The two acres of land consist of lawns, terraces with olive trees, cork oaks and fruit trees, an ancient wood, a little stream and water mine. There are magnificent views over the valley to the hills beyond and the property consists of two houses one for the owners and one for the guests, both have undergone complete renovation over the past three years and although we have plenty still to do in the garden and woodland you will be able to relax and enjoy a quiet drink or read a book in pleasant surroundings either on one of the terraces or near the swimming pool.

Nearby is the small market town of Alvaiazere with a population of a little over 8,000 people. The town considering its size has a surprising cultural infrastructure, it has a cultural centre where many forms of entertainment take place, including piano recitals, and plays, etc. There is also a cinema which shows all the latest films usually in English with Portugeuse subtitles. A number of bars, cafes and restaurants in and around the town will allow you to sample the local food and drink as well as the local hospitality.

The town also has a sports stadium where apart from the obvious sporting activities, a range of other events such as music festivals, stunt riding, fetes, expositions, and gastronomic competitions take place. Nearby is the outdoor swimming pool which is open all through the summer, or as an alternative beautiful and clean river Zezere is 30 minutes away and provides picnic spots swimming and idyllic sunbathing areas.

On the mountain of Alvaiazere there is a commanding panoramic view of the surrounding area, there is also a hang gliding club for the more adventurous.
